LEWA WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is located on the northern slopes of Mt. Kenya. It consists of five different ecosystems: open savannah, acacia forest, rocky gorges and ravines, mountain forest, and swamp. Each of these ecosystems offers a different view of wildlife in Africa.

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is an award-winning catalyst and model for community conservation, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is featured on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's Green List of successful protected areas.

Lewa is the heart of wildlife conservation, sustainable development and responsible tourism in northern Kenya and their successful working model has provided the framework on which many conservation organizations in the region are based.

On these conservation safaris, we spend seven nights at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) and two nights at a neighboring group ranch called Il Ngwesi, and two nights at Elephant Bedroom Camp in the heart of Samburu National Reserve. LWC is home to 10% of Kenya's black rhino population and 20% of the world's population of Grevy's zebra.  

In terms of wildlife, there's a little something for everyone. There's abundant birdlife, reptiles, hoofstock, and carnivores to satisfy just about everybody. Most days are spent watching wildlife on game drives. There are various side trips available as well.  Those include day trips to the Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve, the Mt. Kenya area with shopping in Nanyuki, and lunch in a fig tree surrounded by colobus monkeys.

 

You can also kick back and relax if you'd like, it's your choice.
